A TRADE mission to Hungary led to an East Lancashire firm buying up another firm.

PDS Engineering of Nelson were so impressed with a Hungarian machine tooling firm they visited that they made an offer to acquire it

PDS was one of 12 companies taking part in an annual delegation to Industria, Eastern Europe's largest industrial trade fair.

The mission was organised by North West business development agency Nimtech.

"The exhibition was very successful for us," said PDS chairman John Getty.

"We have made some wonderful Hungarian contacts as well as Czech, Russian and Romanian. We will certainly be back again next year." Before the exhibition took place Nimtech had arranged more than 110 face-to-face meetings with European businesses that were interested in meeting them.

"The British delegation achieved some great successes and with many discussions still ongoing we can be confident more will follow," said Peter Lernyei, Nimtech's business liaison executive for Hungary.
