A MAJOR event to help shape the future of East Lancashire is set to be staged.

The East Lancashire Partnership is hosting the conference to tell the area what its plans are to make sure it has a competitive economy, transport system and quality of life to match the best comparable areas of Europe.

The Partnership is a mix of local authorities, industry, education and community groups set up to promote the area's economy.

The conference aims to outline the progress of the Partnership so far and to highlight the aims it has set and how they will affect the local population. "We have drawn up a number of goals that we believe will provide East Lancashire with the competitive economy, facilities, opportunities and quality of life equivalent to the best UK and European cities with a population similar to that of the area," said John Tilley, director of East Lancashire Partnership.

The East Lancashire Tomorrow event will be held at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel on July 12.
