PLANS for a new church in Nelson to replace one demolished last year have been given the go-ahead by councillors.
Pendle Council's Nelson area committee granted planning permission for the new St John's Church, Barkerhouse Road, and gave its blessing to the venture.
Coun Dorothy Ormrod said: "It's nice to see a replacement for the church" while Coun Azhar Ali added: "I think the new church will make an improvement to the area." The new church will be built on the site of the former Sunday School building and the neighbouring former church site will be used as a 21-space car park.
The building will include a worship room, hall, meeting room, vestry, kitchen and toilets.
The former St John's Church was demolished after structural problems were discovered.
The congregation has since used nearby Williams Hall community centre and St Philip's Church for worship.
