BLACKBURN: The uncle of Shaun Smith, whose body was found in the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, today said thank you to friends and family who had helped in the search.
Seven-year-old Shaun, of Gloucester Road, Whitebirk, was found by police divers on Tuesday, four days after he vanished.
His uncle, David Worthington, 31, of Norman Street, Blackburn, said: "I'd like to say a big thank you to all friends and family who have given their support.
"We prepared ourselves for this, but there was a mixture of relief and shock when it was announced that Shaun had been found.
"In a way, we now know where he is and he can get a decent send off."
David also praised staff at McDonald's, Tesco and a snack bar on the Whitebirk Industrial estate for handing out hundreds of cups of tea to those involved in the rescue operation.
