THE newly elected Mayor of Todmorden, Coun Ruth Goldthorpe, is recovering in hospital in Germany after suffering a heart attack on an official visit to the twin town of Bramsche.

She is now out of intensive care. Her husband, Rob, who is Mayor's Consort, has stayed with her.

He has been in daily contact with Todmorden town clerk Eileen Greenwood and hopes that his wife will be fit enough to travel home in a couple of weeks' time.

Mrs Goldthorpe was made Mayor on May 22 and carried out official duties at a number of events including Todmorden Carnival before setting off with the rest of the party on the trip to Germany on May 30.

Other members of the delegation returned to Todmorden at the weekend.

The Mayor's duties are presently being carried out by the Deputy Mayor Coun Dorothy Jordan.
