THE match of the day in the between A Division leaders Whalley Road and third-placed Taverners produced a comprehensive nine wicket win for Taverners at Wilsons.

Whalley Road began well with an opening stand of 48 between Mick Johnson (44) and John Dewhurst (23) but Taverners seven pronged bowling attack contained them to 107-9. John Fowler (46no) and Jack Wilson (31no) secured a comfortable victory in a disappointing contest.

Attock swept to the top of the table with a walkover against the suspended Millennium. Manchester Road notched their first win of the season at the expense of Haslingden Methodist. Mark Saulle took 6-29 in an unbroken 18 over spell and David Heys 1-4 in 10 overs as Methodists were restricted to 60-9 in their 36 overs.

Manchester Road all-rounder Heys then scored 20 not out to guide his team to a six wicket victory. Accrington A got back on track with a 69 run victory over St Phillip's. The league's senior player, Alven Burrows, who made his debut for Whalley Road in 1960, scored 34. Mus Shah also weighed in with 34, Simon Baxter bowling unchanged for the Blackburn side, taking 5-63. Peter Church's spectacular tumbling catch to dismiss Paul Burrows was the highlight of St Phillip's effort in the field. Paul Walsh took 5-27 as Accrington bowled out their rivals for 74. Peel Park top the B Division after a 43 run win over Everest at Bullough Park. An opening stand of 68 in 14 overs between David Lord (51) and Nick Whittaker (19) saw Peel Park on their way to 152-8. Sarfraz Ali and Phil Carter took four wickets each for the new league leaders.

Sunday's Harry Wood Cup matches were abandoned due to the downpour and will be replayed this Sunday.
