I WISH to reply to the recent criticism of local people who chose to abstain from voting in the council elections.

I have always been one of those who thinks that voting should be compulsory, and I have voted Labour all my voting life. Indeed, I have never missed an election.

However, my husband wanted to vote Liberal Democrat in the local elections, but Church ward did not have a Lib Dem candidate. So why should he, and thousands of others, turn up to vote for candidates or parties that they do not want in power. I may be his wife, and I can nag him to go and vote, but even I wouldn't expect him to vote for something he doesn't believe in!
