NEWTON HALL Amateur Swimming Club competed in the latest gala against Lancaster and Carnforth at Salt Ayre Pool Lancaster on Saturday (June 5).

Early wins by Karen Skelly and Andrew Hodgson in the 12 years and under freestyle along with wins for the ladies open freestyle relay and 14 and under boys medley relay, plus another win for Andrew Hodgson in the 12 and under butterfly and Samantha Taylor in the girls 14 and under breaststroke, meant Newton Hall going into an early lead after 12 evens by 37 points to Carnforth's 30 points and Lancaster's 26 points.

More success followed in the second part of the gala with wins by Stuart Charnock in the 14 and under boys butterfly, Jane Whittle in the ladies open freestyle, Lewis Jones for the 12 and under boys backstroke and Richard Mineur for the boys 14 and under freestyle.

With two of the relay squads also winning Newton Hall extended their lead to 76 points to Carnforth's 60 points to Lancaster's 53.

The final section of 13 races saw Newton Hall win seven of them, including individual success for Oliver Roberts in the 12 and under boys breaststroke, Lisa How in the ladies open butterfly and breaststroke, Richard Mineur again winning for the boys 14 and under backstroke and three relay wins.

Final result: Newton Hall 121, Lancaster 90, Carnforth 87.
