ANOTHER young Preston man has been offered a place at a top London drama school, just twelve months after leaving Cardinal Newman College in Preston.

Guy Flanagan, of Hambleton Close, Longton, is the twelfth member of the college's theatre company to train for, or find employment, in the entertainment business.

He has been offered a place to train as an actor at the Drama Centre, in London.

Guy, 19, said: "I am absolutely over the moon. I've wanted this for so long. It's the only thing I've ever really wanted to do.

"I can't believe it's about to happen."

The Drama Centre, which was featured in the BBC series Drama School several years ago, is notoriously difficult to get into.

Cardinal Newman drama teacher Peter Hartley said: "The Drama Centre must be among the top five drama schools in this country.

"They have a very rigorous selection procedure where the applicants undergo a gruelling cross-examination by a panel of top tutors, including the centre principal. Guy has done remarkably well."

Guy said: "Before you go in for the audition all you are worried about is doing your audition pieces. When you come out, all you can remember is the cross-examination. They really take you apart."

Guy did his first round of auditions while still at Cardinal Newman but, as with most applicants, he had to suffer a series of rejections.

A year later he tried again and, after two further auditions, the Drama Centre panel offered him a place.
