TEENAGE girls in Bamber Bridge are being urged not to leave home alone at night after another young woman was indecently assaulted.

The warning, from local police, follows the third attack since February, which took place on Sunday, close to Bamber Bridge Football Club's Irongate ground.

In the latest attack a man, believed to be in his 30s, approached the girl as she walked down a dirt track adjacent to the ground.

After putting his hand over her mouth, the attacker pushed the teenager to the ground, and started to undress her.

But the girl began screaming and the attacker ran off.

Now police are warning girls not to go out alone at night.

Det Sgt Dave McKenna, of Bamber Bridge CID said: "This is a horrible attack which has caused a great deal of distress for the girl involved.

"We have reason to believe this attack was carried out by the same person responsible for incidents in February and April and it is giving us cause for concern.

"Fortunately the girl struggled and the attacker was scared off but we are worried that this might happen again."

He added: "We would urge all girls to be very aware when they go out.

"They should make sure that they will be with somebody at all times and should not place themselves at risk.

"This is a nasty incident which we do not want repeating."

The attacker is described as male, white, 30 years old and about 5ft 8ins tall.

He is of medium to stocky build with cropped, dark hair.

He was wearing a blue bubble-style jacket.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Bamber Bridge Police on (01772) 433561.
