I TOTALLY agree with the letter from D Tighe regarding proposed parking permits in the Railway Road area of Leigh.

We live in the Findlay Street area and the only problems we have in parking are outside of the proposed operational times of the preposterous parking scheme.

During the day there is an abundance of space. Sunday car boot sales cause many problems, but the local pub causes most.

For example before noon on June 22 we went out to see friends. We arrived back at 10pm and there were no parking spaces in our street or any of the next three.

So we parked on a turning point in Findlay Street (no longer necessary because the road is now one-way) on yellow lines.

When we went our car the following morning at 7am we found we had received a parking ticket issued at 5.50am!

Obviously we were in the wrong parking on double yellows, but our point is that this was a result of problems encountered trying to park in our street.

Even with proposed restrictions that problem won't be erased.

At least at the moment we have the option of trying other streets for a space. If the scheme goes through you will only be able to park on your own street.

I have not spoken to one person who is happy with the proposals. The whole thing stinks of profiteering and unwanted enforcement.

Please, everybody who objects, voice your concerns before it is too late.
