A "BARN boogie" which attracted hundreds of people to a remote riding school in Pendle is expected to raise around £5,000 for local worthy causes.

The annual dance organised by Nelson and Colne Round Table was held at Whitemoor Stables, Foulridge..

The event, the biggest fund-raising push of the year by the Round Table, was switched from its previous venue in Halstead Lane, Barrowford, to Whitemoor this year. Organisers ferried people from Barrowford to Whitemoor and back again in buses.

Peter Boast, of the Round Table, said the dance would have raised more if it had not been for the expense of converting an indoor riding arena into a dance hall for the night.

"The final figure isn't known yet but provisionally I would say it will raise around £5,000 which will be distributed among local charities and worthy causes," he said.

"The evening went marvellously and people had a great time."

Although the music could be heard two miles away in Foulridge past midnight there was only one complaint to the organisers and Pendle Council's environmental health department about the noise.

Andrew Wilson, chairman of Foulridge Parish Council, said no-one had approached him to complain. "It only happens once a year," said Mr Wilson, who was at the event. "A lot of people enjoyed themselves and raised a lot of money for good causes. It was a brilliant night.

"It was that well organised, it was a credit to the Round Table."
