COMMUTERS who are demanding improvements to train services between Blackburn and Bolton aired their views at a meeting with rail bosses.

Members of the Blackburn and Darwen Line Rail Users Group met First North Western Trains chiefs at The Railway pub, Bromley Cross, Bolton.

Group secretary Ian McHugh, said the meeting was 'encouraging' as more than 20 people discussed ways of improving the service.

The pressure group was set up by disgruntled rail users who were fed up of delays and cancellations on rush-hour services between Blackburn and Bolton.

First North Western's general manager Paul Rushton and assistant Kathryn Spencer, were on hand to answer questions.

Honorary group president David Crausby, MP for Bolton North East, attended, while Darwen and Rossendale MP Janet Anderson was also invited, but had another appointment.

Ian McHugh said: "We spoke about the reliability of the service and general conditions for passengers who are stuck on platforms.

"It is good to have Labour MPs listening to our concerns, because the Government has claimed transport is one of its big issues.

"There are discussions under way for more regular services and possibly to bring back the double track, so one delay doesn't set the rest of the trains back.

"We are still putting up with cancellations and it's important the operators know our strength of feeling."
