SHEFF WED RES 0 FOUR cracking goals - two apiece for Matt Jansen and James Thomas - were the highlights of a victory romp by Blackburn Rovers in last night's FA Premier Reserve League (North) clash at Ewood.

Rovers began with a bang, going 2-0 ahead in the opening 20 minutes. Then, after surviving one or two scares, finished the game on top note too.

Fielding a number of youngsters, Rovers were helped by the presence of Jansen and Jason McAteer.

Wednesday's best spells came either side of the interval when they forced Michael Bingham to make a couple of fine saves. Striker Gerald Sibon was also out of luck with one or two chances.

But Rovers built an early platform for victory when Jansen fired them in front after 12 minutes. Eight minutes later, Thomas scored with a diving header at the end of a superb move between Wayne Gill and David McNamee.

After some Wednesday pressure, McAteer had a free kick saved but combined with Jimmy Corbett to set up Jansen (75 mins) for another clinical finish.

Five minutes from time, Leam Richardson and Jansen were involved before David Dunn played the vital part to create a chance which Thomas hit high into the net.

Young central defenders Michael Taylor and Steve Hawe did well against experienced opposition.

ROVERS: Bingham, McNamee (sub Scates 80 mins), Taylor, Hawe, Richardson, Dunn, McAteer, Gill, Corbett, Thomas, Jansen. Subs not used: Forsyth, Baldacchino, D Dunning, Hind (gk).
