BAMBER Bridge manager Tony Greenwood plans to sign a striker before midnight tomorrow to boost his injury-ravaged squad.

Despite signing all-rounder Dave Maze from Winsford United last week, Greenwood intends to sign his mystery player before the deadline for the next round of the FA Cup.

He has been in talks with the striker's club for the past two weeks and is hoping they will release the player this week.

Greenwood said: "It will be a bit of competition for the forwards.

"If there's only Ian Vickers and Nigel Greenwood and no-one there pushing them for a place, they can start to drop off a bit.

"Signing another striker will pep them up a bit and it's a good thing for the team as well.

"We've been trying to get hold of our man for a couple of weeks now and hopefully it a deal will be tied up by the end of the week.

"But we have brought Dave in to have a look at him.

"We need bodies on the park to be honest because our injury list is horrendous.

"I ended up with just four substitutes last week because of injuries."

Maze can play on either the left or right of midfield and has also proved his worth at right back.

Brig breezed past Morpeth 3-0 on Saturday to book their place in the next round of the FA cup - against old rivals Lancaster City.

But Greenwood is not losing any sleep over the tie.

He added: "I don't want to talk about the FA cup at the moment. We've got two matches before then and I have to make sure we don't pick up any more injuries, and get some players back.

"But we now know who our opponents are and will treat them with the respect they deserve."

Nigel Greenwood put Brig in front on 21 minutes, sliding home a cross from Dave Carroll.

Brig's second came just after the half-hour when Carroll provided a free-kick for Wayne Maddock to slam home.

And Pete Smith tapped in the third on 63rd minutes to seal a classy display from the home side.
