ABOUT 12 months ago the council issued leaflets regarding the proposed road closure of Barley Cop Lane. I contacted Cllr Gratton and registered his views.
He stated that he did not want the road closing but wanted some form of traffic-calming measures.
I told him that I had collected a petition of 200 plus names who felt the same way.
As his views were the same, I gave the petition to him to put our case forward.
About two weeks ago I learned that these proposals were still going ahead. Unable to contact Cllr Gratton I contacted Cllr Janet Horner, she said she was not aware of my petition.
I contacted the administration department of the town hall, they too were not aware of it. I contacted two officers in the engineering department they also were not aware of any petition from me.
I spoke to Mr Grattan who now states he is in favour of the road being closed. He cannot account for the missing petition but states he handed it in.
I have since attended at all 148 houses on Barley Cop Lane. I received a response at 94 of them. Of the 94 only three people were in favour of the road closure.
I have also obtained 40 letters from people who live in the area (not on Barley Cop Lane) who are against the road closure.
I hope the views of all these people will be heard and listened to.
