A SENIOR lecturer at the University of Central Lancashire has been suspended and a high-level inquiry launched into alleged financial irregularities, the Citizen can reveal.

Diane Roberts, head of the department of hospitality, has been suspended, while her husband David Roberts, head of the built environment department, is also absent from work.

A university spokesman said: "There are several allegations which have been made in the university's student newspaper which are factually incorrect.

"The university can, however, confirm that an inquiry is under way involving one member of staff but will not comment further until that inquiry is completed."

Results of the investigation are expected to be revealed by the end of the month, when an official hearing will take place.

At the time of the Citizen going to press, the university's vice chancellor Malcolm McVicar was unavailable for comment.

The same applied to deputy vice chancellor Alan Roff and the dean of the Lancashire Business School Alan France, who oversees Mrs Roberts' department.

The report in Pluto claims that Mrs Roberts' is appealing over her suspension, and that husband David is on extended sick leave.
