THE Italian Romano Prodi, newly-elected President of the European Commission, recently said: "Many countries are leaving behind their roots and their strong traditions while coming together."
Why? For what purpose?
What a depressing outlook! What about our heritage, our fight for survival in 1940, our nationhood, our sovereignty?
Is all this now meaningless?
