A BLACKPOOL school is giving its support to a national appeal to help the childrenof the next millennium.

A number of teachers and staff at Arnold School are taking part in the Children's Promise millennium final hour appeal which has recently received extensive television coverage from top celebrities such as Gary Lineker.

The appeal is asking people to donate the value of one hour's earnings before the dawn of the year 2000 with the proceeds destined for a range of children's charities.

Teacher Diane Pailing said: "This is an ideal way of helping children who are less fortunate than those who attend our school.

"Lots of members of staff from the head teacher Mr Gillen to the canteen staff have agreed to take part."

There is still time for schools, companies and offices to take part in the Children's Promise appeal and during October donations can also be made at all major banks.

The money raised will be split equally between seven high profile charities who work with children: Barnardo's, BBC Children in Need, Childline, The Children's Society, Comic Relief, NCH Action for Children and the NSPCC.

All operating costs are covered by Marks and Spencer so every penny donated will reach the children's needs.
