A BLACKPOOL snooker queen is right on cue to pocket a top honour, despite only being able to play part-time.

World Ladies number 3, Lynette Horsburgh - a publicity officer at Blackpool and The Fylde College - has been nominated in the Lady Player of the Year category of the World Snooker Awards.

Lynette, the 1999 British Open Champion, will discover if she is successful from David Vine, master of ceremonies at the WSA lunch to be staged at Caf Royal, London, tomorrow (October 8).

And what makes the nomination even more special for 25-year-old Lynette, who practices at Blackpool snooker hall Route 9, is that this is only her second season back after taking a two-year break while studying at the University of Central Lancashire.

But Lynette, who potted her first ball at the age of nine, says she isn't holding her breath about walking away with the title.

She said: "It's only the second time there's been a women's category and it's already recognised as the award to win.

"I do feel really honoured to be nominated and it was quite a surprise when I heard I was up for the award.

"A lot of the other girls are professional players and I'm only a part-time player, juggling my work with snooker.

"Last year I attended the award to write an article for Pot Black, but obviously this time it's a lot more special.

"But I don't think I will win it - I think world number one Kelly Fisher will win it again. It will be a lovely surprise if I do and I'm keeping my fingers crossed."
