WORKERS in St Helens are among the best in the country according to an economic report by the Bradford and Bingley building society highlighting the best and the worst places to do business.

St Helens is rated joint second, with Altrincham, Greater Manchester, as one of the places to set up companies to take advantage of the wealth of skills on offer from the town's workforce and its handy link with the national motorwaty network.

Council leader Marie Rimmer, said: "The report only confirms what we have been saying for years - that our workers are the best in the country. They have a wide range of skills and give total commitment and loyalty to their employers. The workforce is a company's greatest asset and we hope that would-be employers looking to locate in the North West will continue to see St Helens as a first-class site."
