IN the interests of accuracy, I wonder if I may comment on the article relating to Hyndburn's independent councillor apparently being booted off some committees, which, according to one spokesman were far too many?

Following the dramatic events of last May, Hyndburn was left with the worst of all worlds politically, a hung council, with Labour and Conservatives having 23 seats each, plus the single independent.

This was an impossible situation which could only be resolved by one of the parties approaching Coun Shurmer with a deal, to bring him on board.

The Conservatives duly did this, giving him several committee seats in the process.

It is a historical fact that, without independent support, the Conservatives would not be in control of Hyndburn Council, and there would not have been a Conservative group leader, who appears to find it unpalatable.

One Tony Blair is quite enough, thank you very much.

From a very disillusioned elector.
