A GARAGE worker foiled a robbery bid after a skinhead mugger snatched a bag of cash he was taking to the bank.

The robber threatened his victim with a heavy spanner, but fled empty handed following a chase through the streets of Blackburn.

The thief pounced at around 4pm yesterday when the manager from Masterzum Garage, Accrington Road, was carrying the day's takings to a bank in Copy Nook.

A man emerged from bushes at the side of the road and snatched a bag containing the cash. The bag was grabbed with such force the garage worker was left holding the handle.

The plucky victim chased the robber towards Accrington Road and a confrontation took place on a patch of waste ground.

The robber dropped the bag and threatened his victim with a large spanner before running off in the direction of Higher Audley.

Police have issued a description of the raider and are urging anyone who saw the incident to contact them.

The mugger was white, 5ft 5in, aged around 20, slim with dark cropped hair with a fair but spotted complexion. He was wearing tight faded denim jeans and a black hooded coat with the hood pulled up over his face.
