CHORLEY are bidding to get the disappointment of their FA Trophy exit out of their system by making a winning return to UniBond League First Division action at Stocksbridge Park Steelers tomorrow. The Magpies lost 1-0 to Midlands outfit Moor Green a week ago in a game they dominated.

That followed an FA Cup defeat to Marine, so league points are now what Ken Wright's men are chasing.

"That's our priority," said the Chorley boss. "It was a big disappointment last Saturday because we knew we were the better team. If it was a boxing match it would have been stopped. But to win a football match you've got to score goals."

Wright will therefore be looking to his side to take their chances against Stocksbridge, who are a couple of points above Chorley in eighth place.

He added: "I've never been there but I'm told it's a nice set-up with a nice pitch and good facilities.

"Our away form has been very good so we are looking to get another result."

Midfielder Adam Critchley is again doubtful with a thigh strain, but full-back Paul Fleming could be fit following a calf strain which kept him out of midweek training.

GREAT HARWOOD TOWN face Cheadle in the first of two home games in three days with player-manager Denis Underwood looking to close in on the top four in the First North Western Trains League First Division.

"Our home form has been pretty good. We have lost one and drawn one and won the rest, so with two home games coming up, we are looking for two wins," confirmed Underwood, who was encouraged by the midweek draw at Rossendale United.

With Cheadle and Monday's opponents Maine Road both below Town in the table, Harwood could achieve the manager's target. And Underwood's only injury worry is Andy Clarkson, who picked up a knock at Dark Lane on Tuesday night.

NELSON face a crunch six-pointer at home to high-flying Castleton Gabriels tomorrow.

Gabriels sit in second place but John Bailey's men have games in hand in fourth place and will be looking to make valuable ground.

The two sides fought out a tense goalless draw two weeks ago at Castleton, and Bailey expects another tough encounter. Key man Nigel Coates is unavailable through work commitments but Mark Robinson is now back from injury and is a straight replacement.

Other longer-term injuries are Rob Mulloy (knee ligaments) and Chris Halstead (Achilles).

Bailey added: "We have not conceded many goals and that has given us confidence throughout. We've got a good record at home."

The dangermen for Gabriels are Tom McKenna and Abbey Paul, who have scored five and seven league goals respectively.

COLNE vice-chairman Ray Moore has resigned following a bust-up with chairman Dave Blacklock.

Moore, who played a big part in forming Colne back in 1996, quit his post after an incident at Tetley Walker recently. "Ray had a confrontation with the referee after our game against Tetley Walker," said Blacklock.

"Afterwards, there were words spoken between me and him about it and he didn't like what I had to say.

"But, as an official of Colne Football Club, he shouldn't be going ranting and raving at officials, especially when we are at another club."

As yet, the club have refused to accept his letter of resignation.

But Moore is adamant he will not return unless there are major changes.

"The club's not going in the right direction and there are various things going wrong at the moment," said Moore.

"There's a lot that needs resolving before I would go back."

Meanwhile, Colne will be keen to wipe out the memory of last weekend's 4-0 defeat against Squires Gate when Alsager visit Holt House tomorrow in a FNWTL Division Two Trophy preliminary round tie.
