Stevenage Borough 1 Morecambe 2 A VOCAL army of Morecambe supporters saw their team pull back from a goal behind to snatch a great victory against first class opposition on Saturday.

Stevenage came out fighting and put together some superb football for the first half hour but the Shrimps held on, fought back and eventually bagged all three points.

The spirit of the players was totally different from the dismal display against Southport last week.

They faced an opening barrage with two shots against the wood work and after 27 minutes the pressure took its toll with a James Love corner being converted by Carl Alford.

After the break an early Shrimps goal took the stuffing out of Stevenage and they lost their earlier rhythm. Justin Jackson was the man who got the Shrimps back on level terms with a cleanly taken penalty after he was brought down by Mark Smith.

Jackson had a great chance to add to his second but Taylor pulled off a superb save and in the 74th minute Michael Knowles scored his first goal of the season.

A dangerous low cross from Darren Lyons spun through the defence and Knowles was at the far post to rocket it home.

Stevenage rallied but Morecambe hung on and the victory pushed the Shrimps back into the leadership pack.
