A GROUP of German schoolchildren from Bury's twin town of Schorndorf visited the borough this week.

The youngsters shadowed pupils from Tottington High School on a week-long exchange programme which will see a small group of Bury pupils make a reciprocal journey to the German school, Gottlieb Daimler Realschule, in July.

The 18-strong group was taken on a tour of the borough including a trek up Holcombe Hill to see Peel Tower.

They were also treated to trips organised by the families of the Bury pupils they were staying with.

It was the eighth exchange of pupils between the two schools which, traditionally, sees German youngsters, aged between 12 and 14, travel to Bury during the first full week of October.

David Clamp, Tottington High School's German teacher, said: "It was a successful exchange and we will definitely do it again next year."
