YOU could have heard a pin drop at Fairfield Hospital when the St Helens-based training and development company, Development Partnership, held a Silent Auction to raise money for research into heart disease.

The event was held at the hospital's education and development centre at Crank and a large number of prizes were donated, including a signed Liverpool football shirt and a golf day at St Andrew's, Scotland. But instead of shouting out their bids to the auctioneer, the 50 or so guests were asked to write their bids down on a piece of paper with the prize being awarded to the highest bidder.

All the money raised will be donated to the Liverpool-based Cardiothoracic Centre for their Merseybeat Appeal which aims to raise £3.5 million towards heart disease research.
