FURTHER opportunities for tenants to get more involved in influencing St Helens Council policies on housing took a step closer with a series of training days for councillors, housing officers and representatives from tenants and residents associations.
A key element of the Government's proposals for Best Value in housing is the introduction of Tenant Participation Compacts from next April. These will be the building blocks on which to improve local democracy and strengthen and sustain local communities leading to more efficient services.
The Government believes that tenants who are involved and empowered are the key to the future of council housing and the compacts will be directly linked to housing improvements plans which bring finance into local councils to improve homes.
St Helens Council has organised a number of training days on the issue presented by Lawrie McCormack from the Tenants Participation Advisory Service.
