THERE was no rest for Jennifer Adams (Red Rose) or Sandra Snape (Blackburn RR). After their superb Manchester Marathon performances, both competed in the Langdale Half Marathon with Jennifer finishing second and Sandra winning the L35 division.

In a rare appearance on the roads, Sandra's team-mate Lisa Richardson pipped her for fourth place. Like her niece of the same name, Lisa is a fell specialist and is her club's champion at the discipline. Her next race is the Snowdonia Marathon.

Clayton Harriers hired a coach to take five teams to the FRA relays at Alva just north of Stirling. The race consisted of four stages, the first two flagged were run solo with the third and fourth navigation legs run in pairs. For once, none of the teams won medals although the ladies were fourth, the veteran men fifth and the men's A team finished seventh.

Pauline Powell took the plaudits at the Jackie Duffy 4.3 mile Road Race at Rochdale. The Blackburn Harrier finished sixth overall to finish only 10 seconds off the ladies course record. Rossendale Harriers were to the fore with improving Nick Hatchard third, Chris White and 14-year-old Lee Leishman the top juniors, Nigel Gotts third M40, Ged Navan first M55 and Michelle Dew and Julie Leary second and third ladies. For Julie it was her last race before 12 months in Perth, Australia. The race raised £200 for the Rochdale Hospice. Former Blackburn Harrier Tom Ellacott was 36th in the Great North Run in 69 minutes. Tom joined Edinburgh when he went to University there. My thanks to Phil Taylor for pointing out that a full set of results for the Great North Run is now available on the internet, address: http://www.greatnorthern.co.uk. Phil himself ran a time of 1:15.15, wife Karen returned 1:39 and a third Rossendale athlete junior Chris White came home in 1:21. Chris is hoping to join up for the army and a fitness trial at Fulwood Barracks last week he ran 1.5 miles in 7:37, one of the fastest times every recorded.

Eric Wilson won the M45 class at last week's Bowgreave 10M Road Race at Garstang. Another Blackburn Harrier George Davies was second over 50 and Blackburn Road Runners John Mitchell and Adrian Batson finished second M55 and third M60. Just ahead of Adrian was second over 60 finisher Brian Scully of Accrington RR. Eight West Pennine runners contested the Liverpool 10K with Marion Dixon (44.48) their first lady home, leading man was Neil Holding (37.28)
