THREE East Lancashire schoolboys swept the board at the Lakes and Lancashire Division BCF Track Championships by taking gold, silver and bronze position in the 16 and under category.

With an outstanding performance, 16-year-old Ian Ashworth, of St Wilfrid's CoE High School, Blackburn was a clear winner of the Omnium Series which included the sprint, points and Devil Take the Hindmost events.

Second came Jon Steer, also 16, of Clitheroe Grammar, and third was 12-year-old Graham Ashworth of St Wilfrid's, the brother of winner Ian.

Only the week before Ian had finished a brilliant third in the British Cycling Federation 16-and-under National Track Omnium Series after a season-long competition which took in events at stadiums in Brighton, Scunthorpe, Welwyn Garden City and Kirkby, with the last round being held on the Velodrome at Manchester.
