LEIGH SPORTSMEN, top of Division Two in the Leigh & District Amateur Football League, are in the mood for a knockout season.

And they romped in 9-1 against Courts in the opening round of the Redwaters Coronation Cup.

On target were Mick Barrington, Steve Isherwood 3, Mark Mather 2, Mark Royal 2 and Gary James. Dave Dooley replied.

Church Inn beat Sir Charles Napier 4-2 with goals from Dave Morrison, Paul Millard and Mark Spencer 2. Napier answered with a double from Mick Newsome.

Higher Fold LC beat AFC Limelight 5-1, Gary Newby getting the one, Neil Clayton 3, Mick Blakeley and Stephen Ashbrook getting the five.

Hag Fold WMC and Howe Bridge Mills needed extra time but still failed to get a result in a 1-1 thriller. Lee Hilton hit the target for Hag Fold, Wayne Sankey for Howe Bridge.

Jason Shacklady found the target four times as Bowling Green Eagles beat Mechanics Arms 5-1, Paul Forshaw also on target. Andrew Penman replied. Leigh Avenue beat Atherton Royal 8-1 with goals from Nick Pilling, Steve Ackers 2, Paul Banks 3 and Craig Faulkener 2. Gary Farnworth pulled one back.

Astley Villa (Lesley Walker and Anthony Stevenson) beat Britaania 2-0 while goals from Scott Mulcrow 2 and Steve Anderton earned Leigh Phoenix a 3-1 win against Fir Tree Rangers, Neil Ainsworth scoring the one.

In Division One Queens and Royal Oak shared four goals, Simon Corbett and Gary Grundy for Queens, Johnathan Parr 2 for Oak; Leigh Three Crowns beat Union Arms 1-0, Mark Baxendale on target.

In Division Two Atherton C&N beat Brewery Inn 4-2 with goals from Mark Smith, Dean Lord, Jonathan Wood and Ryan Shaw. Dave Lyndon and Ian Foy replied.
