FANATICAL Christians are bombarding Preston's councillors with photocopied bible passages condemning homosexuality.

The extremists believe homosexuality is wrong and want councillors to know that God doesn't approve either.

Councillors have received several passages from old and new testaments - and are unsure of the sender's motives.

A leaflet, from Irish-based group End Time Ministries, has also been sent, explaining why homosexuality is wrong in the eyes of Christians.

One passage describes homosexuality as "an immoral volcano which is ready to explode, destroying the world with ashes of immorality!"

The mail follows a series of gay scandals within the council, the latest of which has involved a homophobic blackmailer threatening to name Preston's closet councillors. Gay councillor Joe Fitzgerald also threatened to out other councillors unless they backed his proposals on equal opportunities.

One local Christian, who wanted to be known only as Mr Johnson, told the Citizen why the leaflets were sent out.

He said: "The bible says homosexuality is wrong and these letters tell the councillors why it is wrong.

"We have been accused of being homophobic, but surely they are bible-phobic. It is wrong."

The leaflet says forgiveness is possible, but adds: "It is not easy; the whole mental and emotional system is warped and some cases unclean spirits find a permanent entrance".

Several councillors confirmed to the Citizen they had received the passages, but asked not to be named.

Coun Ron Marshall said: "I have not received one personally but there was talk about other councillors receiving them last week.

"I am not sure what they are trying to prove."
