ROWDY youngsters on a Leyland estate are terrorising locals with fireworks.

Residents claim their pets are terrified when youngsters set off loud bangers in parkland off Western Drive.

One woman says her dog has even tried to climb into the washing machine to hide from the noise.

She said: "We are used to this happening, but it normally only happens about a fortnight before Bonfire Night, not this early.

"I can't leave the house at night because the dog is too frightened. He won't go out."

She added: "I want to know where these kids are getting the fireworks from so early."

County Councillor Anne Brown campaigned last year for the sale of fireworks to be restricted to firms which could be trusted to only sell them to adults - and then only a few days before November 5.

She said: "This just proves the point that there is a problem with the existing system.

"Fireworks should only be sold a few days before the big night and then only to adults."

A spokesman for Lancashire Trading Standards urged anyone who believed a shop was selling fireworks to children to contact them.
