Rylands 50, Haresfinch 6

FINCH competed well for the first quarter as they strived to avoid a sixth successive defeat.

But once Rylands had taken the lead with a converted try the visitors' heads dropped and the well-drilled home side quickly assumed control.

By the interval Rylands had notched 22 points without reply and they carried on in the same vein after the break with three converted touchdowns making it 40-0.

Finch finally opened their account when skipper Anthony Seabrook sent substitute Chris Gearing powering through for a try which the former converted.

But Rylands had the last word with two further tries to complete the scoring.

Seabrook was adjudged Franco's man-of-the-match for Finch, with Karl Farrall, John Woods and Sahun Kilgannon also putting in good efforts for the losers. Halton Hornets under 16s 4, Haresfinch 16

Strong defence laid the foundations for this well-deserved win for the Finch youngsters against a good Halton outfit.

The visitors led 10-0 at the interval, thanks to tries by full-back Ian Ian Robinson and winger Ian Knowles, plus a goal by second-row Chris Sheffield.

Finch again held the upper hand throughout the second period and increased their lead with a touchdown by prop Tim Hodgson, goaled by Sheffield, before Halton grabbed a late consolation try.

Sheffield was named man-of-the-match for the winners, with good games also from stand-off Ant Parr, Paul Martlew, Phil Critchley and Chris Highcock.

This Sunday, Finch are at home to Leyland Warriors, kick-off 11.30am.
