West Park 24, Aldwinians 8

THIS was sweet revenge for West Park as they dumped the NPI Cup holders out of this year's competition.

Smarting from three defeats last term, when Aldwinians pipped them for promotion and knocked them out of the cup, Park were quickly into their stride.

And after taking early turnovers, some enterprising play took them 60 yards and Geln Fletcher slotted over an easy penalty.

After Peter Osborne had saved a certain try as Aldwinians made their first incursion into Park territory, the men from Red Rocks hit back.

The McCormack brothers combined well at half-back. But the final pass went astray. However, two Fletcher penalties increased the lead to nine points. Another great forward drive came to nothing as the scoring pass to Martin Strett' was adjudged forward.

A penalty by Jackson at last put Aldwinians on the scoreboard, which signalled an all-out attack on the home line.

Second-rower Dean Scholfield, Aldwinians' two-try hero in the Cup Final, went over from a line-out, but the conversion went wide, leaving Park with a 9-8 interval lead.

After the break, Fletcher's fourth penalty increased the advantage and by now Park's pack were beginning to win the ball almost at will.

The inevitable try came when Carl Wales took the ball obn from a drop-out and Phil Houlton finished off good forwards support with the try. Fletcher added the extras.

And a famous victory was sealed when a superb drive by Steve Bibby and Chris Pennington sent Bailey over for a fine unconverted try.

This Saturday Park entertain Kirkby Lonsdale (3pm).
