A MARITAL medical partnership have opened their new £280,000 doctors' surgery in Blackburn.

The unveiling of a commemorative plaque marked the opening of husband and wife GPs Ramesh and Reena Rautray's new building in Primrose Bank.

It is the first purpose-built surgery to open in Blackburn with Darwen for five years.

The couple were previously based at Larkhill Health Centre, but they wanted the new surgery because they needed more space and facilities.

Dr Rautray said: "Although it is early days, both patients and primary healthcare team members are very happy with the facilities available.

"They have been tailored to the needs of our patients and the clinics we hold here."

Dr Rautray has been a family doctor at Larkhill since 1986 and his wife joined the practice in 1992.

Ramesh is also secretary of the local branch of the British Medical Association and chairman of the Overseas Doctors' Association. He is also a board member of the Blackburn with Darwen Primary Care Group (PCG).
