I HOPED that Brian Kidd would pull the results around quickly, but sadly, that's not to be now.

He was reported as saying after the dismal QPR game that he did not know where things were going wrong.

This mystified me as it had been so obvious for some time.

When Colin Hendry started to lose his bit of speed, it cried out for a centre back with speed and good positional sense.

I suggested to the previous manager that he went out and bought Perry from Wimbledon who would, in my opinion, have rescued Rovers from relegation.

Now the defence is poor as a unit and unfortunately some individuals do not have the pace needed to rescue the stupid mistakes that are being made.

The gaps between the full backs and the centre halves are enormous and result in both sides being continually pulled out of position. This has resulted in a number of silly free kicks, penalties and the inevitable sendings off.

My advice would be to pull the full backs in, encourage the two young wingers to be more disciplined and to use their pace.

Secondly, buy a top defender preferably someone young (Burnley have a good one) and tighten up that defence.

I am certain that once the defence stops leaking stupid goals then the rest of the team will start to function.

Buying several bits-and-pieces players is a mistake as you only need one all-rounder. Sell half the squad and use the younger players more.

Promotion is a must.
