BURGLARS who break into people's homes and then steal their cars are believed to be targeting householders in Oswaldtwistle.

In the latest incident, an Audi car worth £12,000 was stolen, along with jewellery valued at £1,500.

The burglars broke into the house in Conway Drive and took the jewellery and car keys before escaping in the silver car, registration S488 LBV.

The break-in happened while the occupiers were out between 4.30pm on Saturday and 12.30am on Sunday.

Police say they want residents in the Stanhill area to report any people who are seen on the streets at night following similar break-ins near Stanhill Lane and Aspen Lane.

A spokesman for Accrington CID said: "This is one of a series of similar break-ins we are investigating which appear to have happened during weekends. We want residents to be on their guard. If they see anybody walking around in the early hours, they should contact the police immediately.

"If anyone has information about who is carrying out these break-ins, then they can contact us, in confidence if necessary."

Anyone with information should call Accrington Police on 01254 382141.
