RAMSBOTTOM UNITED 2 ANOTHER three-point haul for rampant Ramsbottom was not achieved without drama which included a red card brandished, a penalty save and some heated exchanges. A crunching tackle by Rams' midfielder Jamie Ramplin brought him a yellow card and with half a dozen Collieries players over-reacting, a minor flare up followed.

On 34 minutes, United finally grabbed a deserved lead when Russell Brierley crossed from the left and Yorke-Robinson rose above the Atherton defence to place a fine header past Steve Powell.

In the final minute of the half Steve Orrell broke through, rounded Powell and with the open goal beckoning was brought down by Jason Holroyd. A penalty to Ramsbottom and a red card for the home skipper.

However, Russell Brierley's spot kick was well saved by the home keeper.

The second half opened with United continuing to press as Atherton's 10 men packed their defence.

But on 70 minutes Collieries finally caved in as Russell Brierley outpaced everyone to finish with a stunning low shot into the bottom right-hand corner and the visitors were able to cruise through the remaining minutes.
