A POPULAR Cantonese takeaway has scooped a prestigious award for a speciality you won't find on the menu.

But the ingredients which won Lee's Cantonese Kitchen such recognition are sure to be appreciated by diners - they were for attention to health and hygiene.

And they gained the takeaway in Sudell Road, Darwen, a Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council Golden Platter.

Owner Mrs Angela Lee said: "It's a real honour because we are the first Cantonese in the borough to get this award."

Every award holder must have high standards of food hygiene and operate a training programme in food handling for staff.

To qualify for gold, they must also provide smoke free seating areas and mark the healthy choices on the menu.

There are 70 food outlets in the area that have received certificate through the Health Catering Award Scheme.
