DURING the evening of Hallowe'en, Pendle Hill suffered from the usual influx of witch watchers and ghoulie gawpers.

As a result of so many people being up on the hill, most of whom just sat in their cars, the debris left behind was a sight to behold.

Plastic cups and food wrappers of all description were left at the side of the road for about a quarter of a mile on either side of the Nick of Pendle.

It truly was disgusting. I wonder if it is just laziness that stops people from taking their rubbish home and putting it in their dustbin.

However, this letter is not by way of complaint about these thoughtless people, but one of thanks and appreciation to Ribble Valley Council and the people who cleared the mess up.

At 6am on Monday, November 1, the mess existed. At 5pm that same day there was no sign of it whatsoever. A job very well done. Thank you.

ANTONY HAWORTH, Pendleside Close, Sabden, Clitheroe.
