PLANS to bring new business to Burnley have been announced by the country's largest disabled employer, the Remploy Packaging Group.

The company's satellite unit in Ashton Road, Oldham, which deals with heavy duty corrugated case making, will move to the group's larger factory in Burnley by November 19.

The move will enable Remploy to offered an improved service to customers and continue to expand the heavy duty side of the business as part of the range at the Burnley site, on the Smallshaw Industrial Estate.

Seven of the eight disabled employees at the Oldham unit will be transferred to the company's manufacturing services factory also on the Oldham site.

The eighth employee requested to be transferred to the Burnley factory, which recently received Investors in People and will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year.

A spokesman for the company said: "There will be no extra jobs created at the Burnley factory at this minute but hopefully the move will bring more business to that site which already does corrugated case making but not heavy duty.

"They have not got the expertise to expand at the moment but this move will give them the opportunity to make that part of the business grow."
