REGARDING Mr G Moulden (Letters, November 3) goading John Blunt to respond to his earlier letter about the poor neglected farmers of this country, may I just throw my allegiance towards Mr Blunt, who is not a man with whom I agree all of the time.

Mr Moulden is like most country farmers, who, after years of making money on the backs of government handouts, have finally had their wings clipped.

It is not just the farmers who have suffered - nearly every industry, from cotton to coal, has seen a sharp downturn in profits and changes in working practices; some for the better and some for the worse.

The feeding of sewage mixed in with animal feed is not just something that goes on in France. It is no doubt a working practice all over the world. British farmers even made their cows cannibals by feeding them dead cows (bones and eyeballs) in the name of profit, nothing else - hence BSE.

The next time it's Gisburn market (cattle auction, to us townies), just drive past and count all the Mercedes and Volvo estate cars.

US tractor manufacturers John Deer over the last three years made record profits in the North of England due to our poor neglected, but rich, farmers.

There is a saying in Lancashire that people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones Mr Moulden.
