COME to the circus, the greatest show on earth - that's the invitation on offer to Preston party-goers as a leading entertainment troupe limber up for a Millennium Eve to remember.

In conjunction with Preston and South Ribble Business Partnership, a North West variety circus group are aiming to hold a thrilling all human Millennium Variety Extravaganza.

Featuring some of the world's best circus artists and professional acts, the proposed event is expected to take place on Moor Park, from Saturday , December 18 to Sunday, January 9, 2000.

It will also include local amateur groups, gymnasts, comedians and impersonators.

Other thrilling performances will come from a host of skilful acts including jugglers and hilarious clowns, and trapeze artist Jos A Torralba, who will thrill audiences with fantastic high flying acts.

But, before the big top goes up, the group need to sell loads of tickets, with proceeds going to local hospice charities.

Tickets cost £8.50 (adults) £5 (concessions), £12 ringside, £20 (family), afternoon school group bookings £3 (with £1 going to school funds) and £5 for youth organisations (with £1 back to group).

Next year, the circus group are planning to make Preston their permanent home, and are in the process of setting up the area's first Circus Skills Training School, to train youngsters in a variety of circus talents.

Co-ordinator June Barberel said: "The artists involved give a first class performance every time and people will be amazed by the fascinating displays and acts.

"Hopefully, when the school gets off the ground, we will be able to train local children a few tricks of the trade."
