I AM writing on behalf of the East Lancashire Deaf Society to thank the generous people of Blackburn who came forward in droves after you printed out request for more volunteers (LET, November 5).

We now have more than 20 new volunteers who will be helping to get the King's Court project off the ground, and create a centre of leisure and commerce in Blackburn, run for all by deaf people.

The response was heart-warming. With all the new volunteers, there is no doubt that "we can do it!"

Many thanks to the Lancashire Evening Telegraph and its readers.

DOUG ALKER, Chairman, East Lancashire Deaf Society.
