Leigh Harriers 50 Parr Hare & Hounds 10 THIS was a much better effort by Hounds against promotion hopefuls Leigh Harriers.

Despite again having to travel with a bare 13 players, the visitors showed plenty of spirit against a well-organised Leigh outfit.

Another delayed arrival didn't help the Hounds' cause and they found themselves 18-nil down within minutes of the kick-off.

But they stuck to their task and after turning around 28-nil adrift at the break, they were the better side for much of the second half.

Hounds opened their account with a try by hard-working prop Mark Houghton from a pass by veteran scrum-half Frank Martin.

And Houghton grabbed a second touchdown after good work by second-row Stu Weir, with full-back Neil Briers adding a touchline conversion.

But Harriers' ability to bring on 'fresh legs' enabled them to regain control and they added a further 22 points to run out deserved victors.

Best for the losers in a spirited display were Weir, centre Ian Sherwood, Briers, Houghton, back-row forwards Phil Thompson and Karl Grounds, and stand-off Paul Thompson.

HOUNDS are keen to boost their squad. Any players - old or new - are welcome to attend training at Parr Stocks on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7pm or ring Frank Martin on 01744 630919.
