I WAS disgusted to read your front page story Recluse Leaves Fortune to Cats (Citizen, November 11).

People can leave cash to help whatever interests them, I suppose, but when there are so many really deserving needy causes, it is sheer wickedness to foster pests such as cats.

There are far too many of them, trespassing in everyone's gardens and destroying wild birds which help innumerable people in their gardens by destroying slugs, snails and other plant pests.

Cats kill birds for sheer wantonness, pull their nests down, break their eggs and kill tiny birds.

It would make much more sense to help protect birds, which do more good for all in their area.

They are pleasant to see and hear in gardens, not unwelcome trespassers which damage plants.
