CLITHEROE town crier Roland Hailwood is packing his summer clothes ready to lead a group of young professionals on a study exchange trip to Australia.

Four young people aged between 25 and 40 will team up with Rotarian Roland next month for the visit to Victoria and New South Wales.

They include East Lancashire supply and swimming teacher Shelley Whitehead of Station Road, Great Harwood, who was nominated for the trip by the Rotary Club of Great Harwood and Rishton.

The five week cultural, educational and vocational exchange trip is funded by the Rotary Foundation, the Rotary Club's worldwide charity.

The other delegates are Wigton business banker Elaine Haugh, zoologist Alison Rollet of Grange-over-Sands, and Morecambe prison service educationalist Melody Wimhurst.

Roland said: "The aim of this trip is to learn about another culture and increase world understanding and peace. Neither Shelley or I have ever done anything like this before so we are looking forward to it."
