Division Two: Bury 2 Millwall 2

BURY'S first game in the new millennium was a disappointment as the Shakers did not manage to find any of the fluency which they have shown of late, yet they did well to earn a point against a much better team in Millwall.

For Bury it was backs to the wall for much of the first half, and man of the season so far, Paddy Kenny did much to prevent Millwall taking a deserved lead.

Against the odds, Paul Reid notched his first goal for the club as half time approached but in the second half Millwall continued to be the better side and equalised after an appalling back pass enabled Neil Harris to level the score.

The impressive Harris later showed Steve Redmond a clean pair of heels before he pulled the ball back for Paul Ifell to score from close range. However, when all seemed lost, assistant boss Redmond atoned for his earlier error by nodding an equaliser which in truth Bury did not deserve.

Acting manager Andy Preece said after the game: "Its disappointing that we did not play well, but we got out of jail and battled away to get a point.

"They are a decent side and won most of the 50-50s."
