A £600,000 shopping list of work to improve council homes in Pendle has been drawn up.

The plans to invest in work such as installing heating systems and uPVC double glazing and refurbishing kitchens and bathrooms in the new financial year starting in April are expected to be agreed by councillors next week.

Pendle Council is also planning to spend a further £2.4million, raised through council house rents, on its normal annual repairs and maintenance work on more than 4,000 council homes.

The planned work includes:

Refurbishing kitchens and bathrooms and installing central heating to 28 homes in Cleveland Street, Colne.

Upgrading heating systems in 33 homes in Harrison Drive and Birtwistle Avenue, Colne.

Installing uPVC double glazing at 20 homes in Spring Mount/ Shaw Square, Earby.

Refurbishing kitchens at 61 homes in Cravendale Avenue/ Rakeshouse Road/Throup Place, Nelson.

Re-roofing 48 homes in Rimmington Place, Whitehough Place, Thursden Place, Marsden Hall Road North/Hemingway Place, Nelson.

The spending plans break down to £400,000 earmarked for repairing and replacing doors and windows and painting work, £175,000 for replacing and upgrading heating systems, and £90,000 to adapt homes for disabled people.

Helen McHale, the council's housing and community care services manager, said: "We have made great attempts to consult as many council tenants as possible about these spending proposals through the council's customer panels and borough forums.

"Tenants' views have had a direct influence in terms of identifying priorities for spending."

The spending plans are due to be agreed by the council's services committee a week today.
